Re-compute Example 1 taking into account in-situ effects and a lamina thickness tk = 0.25 mm. Take into account that the laminate thickness must be a multiple of the lamina thickness.
Example 1:
Verify the design in Example 2 using laminate analysis software [1]. Use material properties for E-glass-isophthalic-polyester from Table and ply thickness tk = 0.25 mm. Neglect any increase in strength due to in-situ effects.
Example 2:
Design a composite cylindrical pipe of radius a = 1.0 m full of water. Assume the pipe is simply supported every 4.0 m and it is free to expand along the length (Figure ). Use a load factor α = 2 (to account for dynamic effects during filling) and a resistance factor ∅ = 0.25 (to account for very long-term loading, i.e., creep rupture) on the FPF strength values.
