The purpose of the assessment is to assess the students on their ability to prepare a technical report collaboratively in a workplace.

Collaborative report writing is a feature of many work-place communications. Groups work on various business requirements and report back their findings. This semester you will be exploring a number of communication issues in a group environment.

From each individual contribution, the group will identify general strengths and weaknesses of the present social etiquette displayed by your colleagues in the organisation. These should be shown on a detailed mind map. The mind map should become the basis for a group report (approximately 600 words) evaluating the resources investigated. Credit will be given both for drawing on each of the individual commentaries and for the ability of the group to provide a report that has a consistent style of expression. The group report should also contain an introduction and a conclusion.

Topic: Social Etiquette course proposal - An evaluation and proposal of social etiquette topics for your workplace.

Many people in workplace lack social graces, and your business is to help in raising the awareness of your colleagues in this area.

As a group, you would like to help educate your fellow colleagues on the finer points of social etiquette through a social etiquette course that your group wishes to offer for them. You would also prepare a brochure or pamphlet containing the salient features of the social etiquette course for marketing the course so that they buy in the idea for their professional development.

You especially feel that your fellow colleagues should be aware of the proper etiquette in the following areas:

  • Dining Etiquette Dating Etiquette
  • Classroom Etiquette
  • Etiquette in Public Places
  • Personal Grooming

As a group, select one of the above areas and design a pamphlet to educate and raise the social awareness of your peers. You would want to discuss your focus area with your instructor before you begin.

When you design your pamphlet, please consider the following:

What is the area/aspect you are focusing on?

Why is it important to know the appropriate etiquette in this area/aspect?

What is the message about this particular area/aspect that you would like to convey? What visuals will you use to highlight your message?
