Design and build the logic for the strikes display


Assignment Problem:

The Latchville Little League needs a new baseball scoreboard. Your assignment is to design and build the logic for the strikes display. The scoreboard will have two lights (LEDs) for strikes. The scoreboard operator will have one pushbutton. Each press of the strike pushbutton turns on one more of the strike lights unless two are already on. If two are on, all lights are cleared.

Project Procedures:

Part 1: THE Multisim Tutorial:

Now you have used Multisim in two labs and should be very much familiar with how to navigate through the IDE. The Multisim IDE provides the user with a series of tutorials: Multisim Tutorial, Ultiboard Tutorial, and Multisim MCU Tutorial. You may access these tutorials from Help Getting Started. For the purpose of CSC340L, we will mainly focus on the first tutorial - the Multisim Tutorial, which is Chapter 2 of the "Getting Started with NI Circuit Design Suite" file accessed from Help → Getting Started.

The Multisim Tutorial is a hands-on learning toll for new users of the IDE software. The "National Instrument Multisim Tutorial.pdf" file is included in this final project. Part of the assignments for the final project is to follow this tutorial to get proficient with using the software for schematic design. You can watch the "Multisim Tutorial" course video for more assistance on this part of the final project. The "Multisim Tutorial" course video is included in Weeks 5 & 6 unit of the course.

Follow the "National Instrument Multisim Tutorial.pdf" file that can be accessed from the link in Weeks 5 & 6 Reading "5. Tutorial: National Instrument Multisim Tutorial". You can also access this tutorial in Chapter 2 of the "Getting Started with NI Circuit Design Suite" file accessed from Help → Getting Started.

A) Carefully read through page 2-1 through 2-12 in the Multisim Tutorial, which covers the schematics design and the simulation of the design.

B) Starting in page 2-4, follow the steps to create your design file, instead of saving it to a file named MyGettingStarted under the default design directory, save your design file as YourFirstNameLastNameMultisimTutorial

C) Complete all the steps in the Tutorial (all steps from page 2-1 through 2-12) to create the following design (attached).

D) Include your own screenshots for the schematics, simulations, and the waveforms in the Final Project Report.

E) Include your description of the functions of the above schematics that you entered in the Tutorial.

F) In the schematics, two IC were used: 74LS190N and 74LS47N. Please conduct a quick research on these two ICs and include a description of the main functional operations of these two ICs.

Part II: Understand the Problem in Project

In this part of the procedure, you will need to draft up a specification for the system that you are going to design. A flow chart would be very helpful in understanding the function requirements of your system.

Part III: Translate the function into State Machine Description

A) Find the state diagram for your system based on the flowchart, and identified input and outputs. You must include this state diagram in your final project report.

B) Use a couple of examples to verify the correctness of your state diagram and make any revision/correction as necessary. Include you steps on how you verify your state diagram, any corrections your made, and your final version of the state diagram

C) Find the state table for your system. Verify the correctness of it.

D) Made a state assignment.

Part IV - Find an Implementation of the circuit:

A) With all the information you identified in Part II, you are now ready to implement the circuit. Design your circuit using D flip-flops and any other logic gates as necessary.

B) Create a new design file "YourFirstNameLastNameFinalProject" under your default design directory/folder. In this design file, draw the circuit you have designed from step 1.

C) Run simulations to test your design. You should design a set of test cases that covers all the different scenarios as how the customers would use your system. Capture a screenshot for each of your test cases and include an explanation on how you can conclude that your system is functioning correctly.
