Design a heat exchanger that has an overall heat transfer

Hypothesis:

The Um Elnar desalination plant would like to condense steam generated from the thermal desalination process to about 30oC. The cooling sea water inters the heat exchanger tube of 1.5 cm diameter at 18 oC at a rate of 2200 kg/hr.

Given

- Water @ 30 oC has hfg = 2670 J/kg.K
- Cooling water @ 18 oC has cp = 4180 J/kg.K

Problem:

You are asked to design a heat exchanger that has an overall heat transfer coefficient of 300 W/m2.K. Then calculate the rate of heat transfer.

Assumptions:

- You can select any type of heat exchanger for the design
- You will need to assume the length of the tube
- If you select shell and tube HX then you will need to assume the passes of the tube and shell sides and the number of tubes

Deliverables:

- A complete report that shows the details of the design
o Technical Report
o Choice justifications of:
    Type of HX selected
The assumptions made base on what sense
o Show detailed calculations with explanation of the results and outcomes
You can validate your detailed calculation and results by using a HX Design tool if you wish
o Suggestions and conclusion
- Design diagram or schematic of the HX identifying al the conditions
