- Describe the parties in a juvenile court case: who are they, what they do, and who is the equivalent party in adult court?
- Discuss the role of the judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, Court Appointed Special Advocate and guardian ad litem, and probation officer. Compare the roles of the individuals in juvenile court to the roles in adult court.
- Describe the adjudication process by which a juvenile is transferred to the adult court system. How does this waiver to adult court affect the juvenile? In what circumstances are judges likely to transfer a case to adult court?
- Explain how a risk and needs assessment affects the transfer and sentence of a juvenile. How is the juvenile probation officer involved? What other benefits can be obtained from a needs assessment?
- What are the dispositional alternatives for the juvenile offender? What options does the judge have, and what can probation recommend?
