Problem:
The Test of Memory Malingering (TOMM) provides an objective, criterion-based test that can determine between bona-fide memory impairment and feigned symptoms of impaired memory. Often, malingering patients will present with memory problems inconsistent with screening tools developed for memory impairment. The TOMM is a 50-item visual test designed to help distinguish malingering from genuine memory impairments. Interpretation of the TOMM is made on the basis of the TOMM score that a patient achieves; if the score is less than 45/50, it's suggestive of malingering.
SIRS-2 can be used to assess deliberate distortions in the sel- report of symptoms. Each scale produces information on how a patient might distort or make up their symptoms. There are 172 items, 32 of which are repeated inquiries to detect inconsistency of responses. Content covers a wide range of psychopathology and symptoms that are unlikely to be true. SIRS-2 detects response styles commonly associated with feigning and inconsistent responses that have implications of other treatment considerations.
3. Hayden scores a 41 on the TOMM. His scores on the SIRS-2 suggest that he is feigning the reported symptoms. What is your diagnosis for Hayden's mood disorder? Need Assignment Help?
