Assignemnt: "HR in the News"
Abstract Format
Article citation: Last, First name of author, "Title of Article", Title of Journal, Volume, Number, Date, inclusive page numbers.
Summary of Article: Briefly summarize the article.
Relevance of Article: Describe specifically how the example in the article illustrates or enlightens the text material and how the article enhanced your understanding of the topic you are covering, i.e., what was the value added for you.
Notes: The abstract may not exceed one page. Use 12 point Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins (single or double-spaced). Attach a copy of the article to your abstract.
This assignment is worth 20 points and counts for 4% of your total points:
• 2 points for choice of a quality news article
• 2 points for proper identification of the topic
• 3 points for the summary
• 3 points for the relevance of article description
• 2 points for accurate in-text citations, article citation, and editing (see notes above)
• 8 points for presentation and questions
This assignment will allow you to develop the following skills:
• Research skills, which is to be demonstrated through:
o the ability to research and find an article that is relevant to the topics that we are discussing in class
o correct within text citation (No references list/bibliography is required)
o defining constructs and keywords as needed
o linking the media article to specific HR topics
• Written communication, which is to be demonstrated through:
o the ability to communicate ideas by writing an abstract
o the ability to summarize an article and convey its main theses and supporting ideas
• Verbal communication, which is to be demonstrated through:
o the ability to present key ideas from the abstract in class
o being prepared to address questions from the class.
