An essay discussing war propaganda in contemporary times. the essay must reflect on how innovative media technologies are changing the ways wars are fought and also on how they are changing the ways in which the global public is informed about the war and form opinions about it.
Refer to the Russia-Ukraine war as a case study.
Your essay must include the following:
I. Introduction
Provide the background to the 2022 Russia-Ukraine war.
II. Theoretical framework
Define propaganda. Describe how war propaganda was used in the past. Describe how war propaganda is used in contemporary times.
III. Literature review
Discuss how innovative media technologies are changing the ways wars are fought.
Discuss the changing ways in which the global public is informed about the war and form opinions about it. What is the CNN effect and in your opinion is it still relevant or effective in this social media world?
IV. Methodology
Virtual ethnography is a research approach for exploring the social interactions that take place in virtual environments. Choose a social media platform and use this method to analyse civilian propaganda delivered through social media networks for the purpose of trying to influence perceptions about the war.
Select 10 pieces of content (as a purposive sample), e.g. 10 tweets or 10 TikTok posts or 10 Facebook posts or 10 YouTube video comments.
V. Discussion
Provide the findings of your research and discuss the implications for the concept of the CNN effect.
