PART I: WRITE 500 WORDS
Introduce yourself via a written and video introduction.
• In your written introduction, share a little bit about yourself including:
• Name you prefer to be called
• Location (town or state that you currently reside)
• Educational background (including the last time you took classes, your experience with online classes, etc)
• Educational goals (including your major or career aspiration)
• Something unique or interesting about yourself
To demonstrate the ease of communication in today's technological world, you will create a short video self-introduction. This type of technology might seem daunting to some, but once you accomplish this, you'll find how technology simplifies today's communication. You can do this.
Your video introduction provides an opportunity for you to ensure you have access to the necessary video/audio technology that promotes success in an electronically linked world. The theme of your video introduction is "It Represents Me." In your video introduction, identify an object or prop that represents you; explain how and why it represents you. Your video introduction should be 1-2 minutes.
Record your video directly on YouTube or via Screencast-o-matic; Throughout this course, when you create a video and upload it to YouTube, select the privacy setting UNLISTED. In that way, the videos will not appear in searches. Two weeks after the end of the course, you may delete these videos, if you wish.
PART II:
Write a 500-word essay in which you consider a communication goal that you hope to accomplish in the near future. How will you accomplish it? Consider the specific steps that you will need to take and reflect on different ways you can approach the issue.
Submit your written introduction, Part II essay and the link to your video to the Drop Box using Microsoft Word or Open Office Write.

Journal: Language and Situation
You will explore how language changes based on the situation. Imagine a situation in which one person is asking another person for a favor (identify one favor and utilize it for the entire assignment). Select three of the following situations:
• Grandchild talking to grandparent
• Two romantically involved people talking
• Employee talking to boss
• Student talking to professor
• Two siblings talking
• Two neighbors talking
• Parishioner talking to a pastor
• Parent talking to a child
• Two colleagues talking
For each situation that you select, write a dialogue between the two fictitious people; the dialogue should focus on one person requesting a favor from the other person.
Reflecting on your dialogues, answer the following questions:
1. How did the dialogues change?
2. Why did the dialogues change?
Length: Each scenario must be at least 350 words (1050 words total)
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
