Assignment Introduction In this assignment, we will explore the development norms of your sample population within the family that you presented in the Topic Selection and Rationale assignment. Development norms are important because they help providers understand distinctions between normative behaviors and nonnormative behaviors, each of which can cause stress in the family system. For example, the stress of a maturing adolescent is normative behavior that can be a stress within the family system, while an adolescent with a substance-use disorder is not normative behavior but will also cause stress within a family system. Note: Remember to review the requirements for your final project before you begin each assignment. As you begin each assignment, consider how the research and thinking you do might contribute to your work in the final project.
Assignment Instructions Conduct a brief review of national data for your selected population groups using the suggested Web sites in the Statistics & Government Resources library guide linked in Resources. Using at least five peer-reviewed research articles for support, describe normative behavior for your selected population by age, gender, and cultural group. Also, describe nonnormative behavior or development conflicts for your selected sample population. Additional Capella library guides linked in Resources will help you locate studies using specific tests and methods and begin to consider how to analyze and interpret research findings and other results. Apply at least two family theories that align with or work well for your selected population group. Describe your approach in working with this family system and address the following points in your discussion:
•Describe how a family theory is shaped by values, beliefs, and assumptions about the nature of human beings, psychological well-being, sources of stress and conflict, and the change process.
•Describe the relationship between professional ethics and the values, beliefs, and assumptions that inform your approach to working with a family sample group.
