Describe ethical research

Assignment:

1. Ethical research is research which is done while keeping in mind one's morals and beliefs. For example, research done with no regard for an animal's or person's wellbeing, would be considered unethical. Hurting an animal just for the sake to see it suffer would be morally wrong and it would be considered unethical. Meanwhile, treating animal's and people fairly in order to conduct and research meaningful experiments, would be considered ethical. It may be difficult to tell the difference sometimes between ethical and unethical, as every person has their own moral compass.

2. I define ethical research as research that is conducted without adding my own beliefs, opinions, or morals prior to researching a topic. For me, I approach topics as if I do not one single fact about the particular subject. Its almost like thinking with a blank canvas to help me find bits a pieces of information and creating a paper that touches all aspects of the topic. I think my opinion goes hand in hand with the criteria for the research to be conducted because you want to find valid sources that have the same type of "pretending" to have no knowledge of the subject. I also think to have a research paper be considered ethical , there must be multiple types of sources beside articles or books. A researcher can have focus groups or interviews with certain individuals to gather first hand information. The person also conducting the research may want to consider interviewing people who have opposite opinions. I think when it comes down to ethical research , the person gathering the information needs to cover all information regardless their beliefs.

3. They way I would describe ethical research would be by obtaining information both legally and with pride. Various people have different views on ethics, and in many cultures ethics are completely different. But in research we all follow the same idea to be able to obtain our information through sources that are both scholarly as well as relevant. We also need to assure that when citing that research we give proper credit and not claim it as our own. When we look at a research study I believe ethics has a very strong line that cannot be crossed. It is important that whomever is participating in the study has fully consented and understands exactly what will be going on. It is also important to consider age as it is unethical to preform any study on minors without parent presents. A research study has a lot of power, and those administering it needs to be aware of all the ethical boundaries they cannot cross.

4. Ethical research is just an extension of basic ethical principles that we incorporate into our daily lives. When conducting ethical research you have to consider all of the components of your research and how the research will affect others. Researching a cure to a terrible disease is good ethical thing to do, but going about it the wrong way can result in unethical research. It would be unethical to inject healthy (unwilling and unknowing) subjects with the disease to study and learn how it adapts, regardless of the outcome. I also think that unethical research extends to false reporting or inaccurate numbers. For example, conducting a survey with a group of individuals who have a strong bias will most likely lead to inaccurate numbers. It is the ethical and moral duty of the researcher to determine biased data and gather more research before formulating a conclusion.

5. I would define ethical research as a form of gathering information that is not only accurate but follows the guidelines of someone's morals and beliefs. With this being, I also believe that this research must be accurate in the sense that the research collected portrays an understanding of what exactly is being discussed in the research and if it is some sort of argumentative research, that it states both sides of the argument. Along with this, the research must be ethical in the sense that it does no harm to one person or living being. For example, testing make up on animals can be seen as unethical as the research to see if the make up is harmful can potentially cause life threatening harm to the animal and to add, the animal cannot do anything to stop it.
