Describe environment focus on physical environment elements

Problem

You are to pretend you get to observe general education or inclusion classrooms or preschools (not designated special education classrooms) serving children ages 3-8. While you were observing the classroom as a whole, you are to collect data on 3 specific children, all of the same age, collect data on a minimum of 3 of their developmental areas (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, language, etc.). One of the children must have been identified as having special needs and requiring accommodations noted on IEP or 504.

Do not use your own children, current employment, or other family members. (The purpose of this assignment is for you to identify the development of children who are not known to you already!)

In paragraph one, describe the environment focusing on the physical environment elements, the basic make-up of the class as a whole, the community, personnel, resources, etc.

For each of the three children selected (in a separate paragraph for each child), describe the specific child, his/her areas of strength, areas of need, and describe 2 accommodations/differentiations used to enhance areas of strength and/or meet areas of need. The student with special needs will have an IEP or 504 that dictates his/her accommodations; general education students do not have mandated accommodations or differentiations. In the same description of each child, you are to describe two accommodations/differentiations that you would put into place to meet each student's needs. For example, you may want to suggest having the child use a finger grip if he/she is having trouble holding a pencil correctly.
