As an Early Childhood Professional, it is important to understand the role of advocacy and leadership in addressing social injustices through a variety of social movements and their intersectionality with children's rights. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child expresses the fundamental rights of all children convention-rights-child-text-child-friendly-version.
• Step I: Topic: Disability Rights Movement
• Step II: an overview of the social movement describing its goal(s), main issue(s) and connection(s) to social justice. (i.e., what injustice(s) does the social movement address?).
• Step III: Identify and describe one active Canadian based campaign of the social movement, detailing the main issue, key message(s), goal and one prominent leader of the campaign.
• Step IV: Identify the function(s) and characteristics of the leader identified in Step 3.
• Step V: Explain how the social movement intersects (connects) with children's rights. Provide clear details to demonstrate your understanding of the movement, children's rights, and intersectionality.
• Step VI: Provide one detailed example of how you would advocate for your social movement as an Early Childhood Professional.
