Assignment: Report on Accommodations
States, districts, and schools across the nation use a variety of accommodations to both identify and assist ELL students on standardized tests and in the classrooms. These accommodations are followed by school and district personnel to assist in leveling the playing field for the ELL learner as compared to their English-speaking peers.
Provide a copy of the accommodations approved by your State Board of Education, District, or school for Academic Achievement Testing for ELLs in Submissions Area. Using the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research accommodations and then write a report. Answer the following in your report:
1. Describe the accommodations approved by your State Board of Education, local district, or school for Academic Achievement Testing for ELLs.
2. How do these accommodations differ from the way regular education English-speaking students are assessed?
3. How will the accommodations assist ELLs in better understanding the test?
4. Describe what may be missing from your district's or school's accommodations that can help ELLs to be better assessed.
Develop a 2 to 3 page report in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
Office of Testing, Evaluation & Accountability
It is the mission of the Testing Office to assist all students in assessing their knowledge, skills, and abilities with and in support of American Samoa Department of Education (ASDOE) goals.
The Testing Office adheres to the highest standards of testing protocol and operates in compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations with special regards to test security and student confidentiality. The Testing Office also provides departmental, institutional, and national testing opportunities to students and non-students in an atmosphere that enables examinees to perform to the best of their abilities.
ASDOE Testing Office working together with SPED Assessment team in providing the necessary conditions for students seeking accommodation in testing. Some of the accommodations provided include:
• low-distraction/distraction free testing environments
• extended testing time
• orally-administered tests
• SPED Personnel assistance
