Demonstrates an understanding of literary terms and concepts

Problem

Review Jericho Brown's The Tradition. Read the collection carefully, taking notes on recurring images and themes, patterns you observe in the formal features of the poetry, and specific poems that function as centerpieces of the collection.

The review is to give potential readers enough information to decide if they want to read the book, like a movie review. The other purpose is critical, an account of the book that becomes part of the book's official, critical reception. Your review should examine the central themes/subjects of the collection by discussing a handful of poems (at least three) that exemplify the themes in the collection, as well as discuss the poems that particularly strike you as exemplary, and how those poems function in the book in terms of form, craft, and content.

Primary sources in this review include works by the author (other than the book you're reviewing) or interviews of the author. Secondary sources are texts about your author's work written by critics.

a) Addresses central themes of the book
b) Demonstrates an understanding of literary terms and concepts
c) Analyzes specific stories within the collection
