Demonstrate a capacity for critical thinking when providing

Prepare you for the final essay.

Unit Learning Outcome:

1. Demonstrate a capacity for critical thinking when providing innovative solutions to complex problems in professional work environments;

2. Communicate proficiently in professional practice to a variety of audiences;
This assessment introduces you to the skill of reflecting on your professional experience. Reflection, in this case, focuses on such capacities as:
- self confidence
- oral communication
- trust
- team work
- time management
- ideas sharing
- innovative thinking
- decision making

In this assessment, we consider your attendance and participation on the Theatre of the Board (or your current or previous employment or volunteer work) as professional experience. This assessment is intended to prepare you for the final essay.

You are required you to critically review your performance on the Board. Focus on one capacity you would like to improve. You will draw from the journal we asked you to keep during the unit. Use the following three step approach for this reflective assignment:

What? This section describes what happened.

You need to focus on one particular capacity and describe an incident that occurred during one of the Theatre of the Board workshops (or your current or previous employment or volunteer work) and the response it caused in you.

Example might be that you felt too shy to speak up during the class and this made you feel left out and frustrated.

So, what? This section looks at theories to help you understand what happened.

You need to review theories about the capacity you have chosen. You are doing this with a view to changing your behaviour and response. Using the example above, you could look at theories on self-confidence. Ask yourself - So, what does the theory say?

Example: According to BoardSource (2010, p. 20), ‘Periodic opportunities for board members to gather informally and become better acquainted can reinforce interpersonal relationships and strengthen the lines of communication'.

Now, what? This section reports on what you can do differently.

Given the theory you have read and considered, what will you do to support you to change?

Example: Given that informal gatherings can support the growth of trust, I will suggest to my board members that we meet outside of class to get to know one another. This might help me be less shy
