Were you surprised by the results? Explain.

o Option B: Explain Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences Theory. Identify and describe the 8 forms of intelligence he proposes. Complete the "Try It!" 2 "Your Sense of Intelligence" (Ch 3). Which 2 intelligences did you score highest on according to this assessment? Were you surprised by the results? Explain.

o Option C: Identify and describe the 4 major personality dimensions discussed in your text. Go online and find a free online test related to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Take the test and indicate what personality type was most characteristic of you according to this assessment. Do you agree or disagree with the result? Explain. Provide the URL address of the website you visited.

o Option D: Define reinforcement and punishment. Describe the major difference between reinforcement and punishment. Provide an example of the use of each of the following: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment. Indicate a pro and a con of punishment. Is punishment or reinforcement generally more effective? Explain why.

o Option E: Identify two of the values that are most important to you. Explain why it is important to you, who taught you this value, and in what way you perceive it affecting your future behavior. Complete "Try It!" 5 "Write a Mission Statement" (Ch. 3). Write your own mission statement. Is it representative of your values and motivational needs? Explain.

ACTIVITY II

Choose ONE of the following options to complete and submit:

o Option A: Complete the "Journal Reflections" (Chapter 4). Post your answer to all of the questions indicated. Additionally, why would sitting near the front of the class be advantageous for taking notes? List two recommendations from your text for taking notes.

o Option B: Explain how tests are useful. How someone does on a test depends upon a number of considerations. Identify three of these considerations. What type of test question do you prefer and why? Complete the "Try It!" 1 "Measure Your Test-taking Style" (Chapter 5). Describe two strategies to deal with test anxiety.

o Option C: Complete the "Try It!" 5 "Take a Test-Taking Test" (Chapter 5). After completing the test submit your response to the following questions:

i. What are five things you should find out about a test before you take it?

ii. Describe the advantages of using a study group to prepare for an examination.

iii. What is academic honesty and why is it important? In addition, compose a multiple choice and a true/false question over Chapter 5 material. Provide the answers to your questions and the page number(s) where those answers are indicated.

ACTIVITY III

Choose ONE of the following options to complete and submit:

o Option A: "Writing is one of the most important aspects of reading." Your textbook identifies and describes several memory strategies. Choose one strategy that you already use and one you would like to try. Identify and describe these strategies and how you do/might utilize them. If you have not used any of these strategies then choose two strategies that you would like to try; describe them and how you might utilize them. Complete the "Try It!" 5 "Determine Your Memory Style" (Chapter 6). Submit your answers to the four questions following the questionnaire.

o Option B: Review table 7.2 "Sample Citations for Different Types of Sources" (Chapter 7) noting how to cite according to APA style. Define plagiarism. Identify two types of plagiarism. What are a couple of possible consequences for plagiarism? Describe two ways to avoid plagiarism. What are two reasons citations are necessary when quoting and paraphrasing?

o Option C: Your text mentions many strategies to garner your audience's attention at the beginning of speaking publicly. Identify five of these tips and describe two that you might use in preparing your next oral presentation. What do you perceive as your greatest strength and your greatest weakness in giving an oral presentation? What might you do to improve?

ACTIVITY IV

Choose ONE of the following options to complete and submit:

o Option A: Who is your academic advisor? If you do not know call or meet with him/her. Do you have a copy of your plan of study? If not, get or print a copy through WebAdvisor. Complete "Try It!" 2 "Create a List of Required Courses" (Chapter 8). Submit your responses to the questions at the bottom of the "Try It!" 2 exercise.

o Option B: Complete "Try It!" 3 "Choose Your Courses." Post your response to the following questions:

i. What courses are you enrolling in for next semester?

ii. Indicate if they are required courses or electives.

iii. Are there any prerequisites required, if so for which classes? In addition, post your responses to the questions after the chart for "Try It!" 3 (Chapter 8).

o Option C: If you have not already declared a major or course of study, complete the "Try It!" 6 "Identify Major Attractions" (Chapter 8).

ACTIVITY V

Choose ONE of the following options to complete and submit:

o Option A: Identify the P.O.W.E.R. plan of decision making. When assessing alternatives, what are the 3 steps in considering each alternative? Review the "Weighing Career Possibilities" for the "Career Connections" (Chapter 10) and indicate one possible career choice and a few ways that choice would bring life-satisfaction.

o Option B: What's the major task of problem-solving? Of the many strategies for solving problems indicated in your text, identify and describe four of them. Which two have you used in the past or might use in the future? Explain. Go to the website indicated under "On the Web" at the end of Ch. 10, "Basic Guidelines for Problem Solving and Decision Making" and identify the seven steps for problem-solving and decision making.

o Option C: Define prejudice and discrimination. List several (at least 4) strategies for developing cultural competence. Do you consider yourself progressing in cultural competence? Explain.

o Option D: What are three ways to develop friendships according to your text? Explain how your textbook differentiates between a friendship and a relationship. When a "true" relationship exists what are a few (at least 3) of its components? Which component is most important to you in a relationship? If you are feeling lonely, what is one of the strategies for dealing with loneliness that you might consider trying?

o Option E: Do you consider yourself a good listener? Why or why not? Your text mentions several ways people can improve their ability to listen. Identify and describe three of these. What might you do to become a better listener?

ACTIVITY VI

Choose ONE of the following options to complete and submit:

o Option A: Complete "Try It!" 1 "Discover Your Personal Financial Philosophy" (Ch. 12). but do not post your answers to this questionnaire. Respond to the following questions: i) Why is it important to have a budget? Ii) Is keeping a budget simple? Explain. Complete "Try It!" 2 "Identifying your Financial Goals" (Ch. 12). What is one of your financial priorities? Compare your priority to those of other students. Is there a similarity or difference? Explain.

o Option B: Complete "Try It!" 3 "Determine Your Saving Style" (Ch. 12). Your text indicates numerous strategies to decrease spending and increase income. Identify two that are/would be most beneficial for you. In addition, post your responses to the questions after the score interpretation of the Saving Style survey.

ACTIVITY VII

Choose ONE of the following options to complete and post your response on the Discussion Board:

o Option A: Define stress. Identify and describe the three (3) main types of stressors. Provide an example of each type of these stressors. List the P.O.W.E.R. principles/steps in effectively managing stress. In thinking about your own stressors, describe three healthy coping strategies that you have employed in the past or that you could use in the future to help you effectively manage these stressors.

o Option B: Research more about one of the following: a specific STI, abuse of a particular drug, or alcoholism. Indicate the URL address of the website you explored. Discuss symptoms, treatments, and possible consequences of the topic you chose. Cite statistics of occurrence amongst college students if indicated. If occurrence is not indicated, specify such.

o The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
