Cyclic tension-compression stresses

Problem:

Consider a metal component that is exposed to cyclic tension-compression stresses. If the fatigue lifetime of the part must be 1 x 107 cycles and it is known that the maximum initial surface crack length is 0.01 in. and the maximum tensile stress is 15,000 psi, compute the critical surface crack length. Assume that Y is independent of crack length and has a value of 1.75, and that m and A have values of2.5 and 1.5 x 10-18 respective, for Acr and a in units of psi and in. respectively.
