Multimedia and Communications Assignment-

For Assignment you will be creating a website for ANY topic you want and it should be tied to the theme that you selected for Assignment. Some ideas provided for Assignment were a Wedding, a favorite artist, a favourite movie, hobby or an upcoming club event you are planning, a business, atravel agency...anything you want. YOU CANNOT DO THE SAME WEBSITE YOU DID FOR CS1033, nor take an existing site that you created in the past.

Build a website with the following criteria:

1. Top menu navigation system must utilize a Horizontal Dropdown menu:

The menu must be created totally with CSS styles (the way you were shown in lab using unordered lists) and not with photoshop images for each menu button. as you did in CS1033. You will be marked on how nicely you set up these links.. border around buttons if makes it look good, hover effect for differentiation between link/visited and hover, whether color goes well with rest of website color pallette chosen, font size, the "look" relative to the rest of the website etc. ).

The top level must have 5 menu items:

  • Home
  • Item1: will contain 3 webpages under it (submenu1a, submenu1b, submenu1c). They can be whatever topics you want.
  • Item2: will contain 2 webpages under it (submenu2a, submenu2b) They can be whatever topics you want.
  • Item3: will contain 3 webpages under it (submenu3a, submenu3b, submenu3c). They can be whatever topics you want.
  • References page (similar to your bibliography- see below for more details)
  • Note: You will be marked on how well the dropdown submenu works (if glitchy you will lose marks), the appearance, the colors, the hover effect upon rollover of each top menu item and dropdown menu.

File/Folder organization:

  • You will be marked on how your webpages are organized in the file directory
  • You need a folder called assign3
  • Within the folder assign3, create a subfolder called images (all lowercase).
  • At the root level: you need your Homepage (which is index.html), References (call it references.html), and folders for Item1, Item2, and Item3 (name these folders appropriately in lower case and with names that represent Item1, Item2, Item3 dropdown (ie. If About Us is the name of Item1, the folder could be called "aboutus")

PLEASE DO NOT NAME THE ACTUAL FOLDERS Item1, Item2, Item3. Use appropriate names you used to replace Item1, Item2, Item3 in the dropdown.

You will create for:

  • under Item1: 3 webpages to populate with text and images
  • under Item2: 2 webpages to populate with text and images
  • under Item3: 3 webpages to populate with text and images
  • WE DO NOT want you to go to an existing website, and just copy "page-by-page" all the content and images found on that page. But you can use portions of a webpage and it must have creative touches of your own.
  • Your top main menu items: Item1, Item2, and Item3 will not link to anything - only your subpages will link to whatever pages you identified)

In the menu bar, notice how Item1, Item2, and Item3 have dropdowns. Since the submenu items will be linking to a webpage, you need to make the top menu item "Item1" and "Item2" and "Item3" simulate a link with a #placeholder as you did in the lab tutorial. For these menu items, enter the value of "#" in the Link field and click OK. Remember from the tutorial that the "#" is entered just as a dummy link. So you do not need to write any content for these top menu items (Item1, Item2 and Item3)

References Page:

Your References page must be called references.html

  • The VERY first line of the references page must be: "This website was created by Your First Name, Your Last Name (your userid)" For example: "This website was created by John Smith (jsmit72)
  • Leave a blank line
  • The third line should include a link to your Banner (.psd) file found in the images folder
  • Leave a blank line:
  • The fifth line now begins your sections for each webpages in your website.(organize it with subheadings of each webpage in your website)
  • Organize the References webpage so that you have headings for each webpage you created.

For every page in your website that you have created content for, include references to:

  • any graphics you did NOT create yourself (you need to provide the URL
  • any typed content you obtained from another site
  • don't forget to make all your links "working links".. we should be able to click on it.
