Problem: One of the most productive teams I have led was a cross-functional project team during a major system implementation at my previous organization. This group of individuals from the IT, operations, finance, and training functions worked extremely well with a clear definition of purpose and respect amongst colleagues, excellent communication, and a shared drive to succeed. Our performance was high due to the following key features. First, psychological safety was the number one thing. All team members were at ease with stating their opinions and ideas and admitting errors without being ridiculed.
