Case Scenario:

My strengths in scholarly writing appear to be a good grasp on making in-text citations, from other work. I read it first and rewrite it in my own words and in-text from where I got the information from.

Areas that need to be improved in my scholarly writing include the following: creating cohesive (easy to understand) sentences, using correct grammar and also the correct tense of words, improving your vocabulary to a scholarly level, and writing in a more engaging (interesting or catchy) way.

Cohesive sentences: Here is an example of a sentence which is not cohesive: "The journey to a successful doctoral program, with the support from family, friends, mentors and faculty. The first step begins." The reason it is not cohesive is because it does not relay a complete thought. The readers are left wondering what about the journey to a successful doctoral program is it that I am talking about.
Correct grammar usage: It is vitally important that I gain a proper grasp on correct grammar, as people in the academic field will find it hard to take my research seriously, if I do not take the time to write on a professional level. I don't have a good grasp on the present and past tense of words.

Improving my vocabulary: I am now writing at a scholarly, advanced level of studies. As such, I am expected to use a more scholarly and assertive vocabulary. Words like very, really, hard, much are called intensifiers and modifiers.

I plan to use the scoring instrument to improve my writing by taking note of the suggestions given to me, and then researching what the evaluator has stated needs to be improved on. When I am told my writing needs to be more concise, I will practice how to write more concisely, and I practice doing this until I am confident that I will grasp of the concept.

The whole purpose of an evaluation is so that you can see the mistakes you are making and then use the information to improve your writing by making changes to how you wrote before.

There are numerous writing resources I can use to improve my writing, but one of the best is the Purdue Online Writing Lab that someone told me to use. I would take the free writing labs online, library or computer lab sections. I will take the workshops that University Phoenix offer and also utilize the WritePoint and Plagiarism Review. I need a lot of work to really complete this program.

Again, feedback is important to the writing process because it provides you with valuable insight into how readers have understood and responded to your writing. You can then take this feedback and know exactly what areas need improvement, and also feel confident with the areas that the reader understood well. Having feedback on your writing is one of the best resources you can get for improving your work.
