Career Development:
Presentation of Career Website, including Creation and Posting of Jing Video
You will be required to critique a Career-minded website you selected, and have approved by the instructor. This assignment will help Candidates explore different web sites that will likely be of use in their professional future, and it will also result in a compendium of web site information usable for all Candidates in the course.
This assignment meets the technology requirement needed to graduate from the program.
Your presentation begins with a Jing video that is a MINIMUM 2 ½ minute video (maximum 3 ½ minutes) to be developed by you for students in a middle, high school or college level, with applicable information from a career-centered information website. The Jing video should capture the interest of the viewer and provide them with useful information for them to explore on your chosen career site, not just simply show different parts of the website. It should be interesting and informative, and cover the 10 points listed below.
Remember who your audience is! What grade level are you gearing your Jing to? What information would they most be interested in locating?
Your JING video must show MINIMUM of FIVE transitions or “links” from the main page of the site, as you discuss these pages or links in your chosen website. As counselors, it is important to know good, user-friendly accessible sites on different career resources, as well as what sites to avoid. It is equally important to have technological skills to be able to appeal to students in a school or community based career center who are seeking information about various career options.
Include the following information about the web site in your JING and website critique presentation:
1. What information is available through this website
2. Age level appropriateness
3. Credentials of person or organization running the website
4. Cost, if any
5. Ease of navigation
6. Originality/uniqueness
7. Security of confidential information
8. Quality of information
9. Usefulness for students
10. Usefulness for school counselors
The presentation will be given by first navigating the website on the Jing Video and then reviewing the information (including pros and cons) with the class, for a total of 10-15 minutes.
The Jing may not be more than 3 1/2 minutes.
10 minutes is the MINIMUM time for the ENTIRE presentation.
Points will be taken off if less than 10 minutes.
You are required to use Power Point or Prezi for your presentation. You do not have to embed the Jing into your presentation, but you may if you like.
You must provide of copy of your Power Point or Prezi notes/slides to the instructor.
Note that ONLY the Jing itself will be uploaded to Task Stream, not your entire presentation.

3. After creating the Jing Video, Candidates will be provided a free account on https://www.screencast.com/, where all your Jing videos can be stored and accessed.

Candidates are required to upload a link to this Jing Video (video only) onto Task Stream.

Faculty is required to provide a rubric score for this assignment on your Task Stream account. After a faculty has responded through Task Stream you are welcome to print out the response and add it to your Professional Portfolio.
