Create a training lecture for doctors and nurses

Assignment:

View the included I*CARE tutorials (or read the transcript) from the University of Texas MDAnderson Cancer Center. These tutorials explain basic communication skills for doctors, especially oncologists and others who may face difficult conversations with patients. Start with the general communication presentation: I*CARE Basic Principles - Introduction Video and then the more specific presentations, called by their acronyms, CLASS, SPIKES, AND CONES.

You will develop a training lecture for doctors and nurses to help them handle "difficult conversations". Before you begin developing the lecture, reflect upon your thoughts and feelings about death. After completing this reflection develop your training lecture using the information from the MDAnderson Center above, as well as at least three research articles published in peer reviewed journals in the past five years.

Submit a transcript of your lecture. In your lecture, be sure to do the following:

Introduce the CLASS concept

Focus your lecture on either the CLASS or SPIKES concept.

Use examples and excerpts from conversations, delivered in both appropriate and inappropriate ways, to illustrate your points.

In making your lecture engaging, you may depart from usual writing form and organization and choose to use anecdotes, humor, or other

speaking tools; be sure however, to cite your sources appropriately in the print version of the lecture that you submit.

Response should be 2 to 4 pages.
