The way I would create a science center in my future preschool classroom would be to make sure everything is labeled and all the parts and accessories are in the same area. I would have a table in the room that is dedicated for the science toys during center time, and there would be a shelf close to the table that will have all the materials on it so they do not have far to move them in order to play with them. One set of materials I would have in my science center would have to do with magnets. There will be a bin that would have a variety of items in it and some will be magnetic and some will not be. They will have magnets with a handle on them so they can scoop it into the bin and see what items they are able to pick up with the magnet. This aligns with Louisiana's preschool standard on the properties of materials. Another activity I would ave in y center is items in nature like leave and models of bugs so the children can use magnifying glasses to explore and see the finer details on the items. This aligns with the life science and living things standard. I would also have a book bin that have age and developmentally appropriate books that I will change out to align with the unit we are discussing. There will be some books that will stay in there the whole year and those would be some touch and explore sensory books so the students can feel the different textures and materials.
