Create a classroom management plan for a specific grade-level that includes the following components:
1. Your personal philosophy of classroom management
2. A list of rules for student behavior and their positive/negative consequences
3. A task analysis of one classroom procedure
4. A substitute teacher plan for expectations and routines
5. Your classroom management implementation plan
6. A beginning of the year letter to parents, introducing yourself and explaining your classroom management plan
7. A strategy for assessing your classroom management plan
1. Personal philosophy of classroom management
. The classroom is to be a safe-haven where abuse, disrespect, and intimidation do not exist. Therefore these types of anti-social behaviors will not be tolerated in my classroom.
. All children are capable of learning. Children learn best in an environment where they feel safe and are able to explore new ideas and thoughts without fear of ridicule.
. Students who display anti-social behavior that violates class guidelines will not be allowed to monopolize class time. If inappropriate behavior is distracting and ongoing the student will be removed from the classroom. If the behavior is intermittent and not too distracting the student will remain in the room and be addressed after class.
. Any inappropriate behavior will be discussed with the student in a one to one conversation not as a debate in front of the whole class.
This reduces tension and helps get at the heart of the problem rather than building walls.
. As students come to realize that a spirit of cooperation is more beneficial than a spirit of apathy they will become more involved in classroom discussion and will develop academically, emotionally and socially.
