In September 2002, CNN reported on a method of grad student recruiting by the Haas School of Business at U.C.-Berkeley. The school notifies applicants by formal letter that they have been admitted, and also e-mails the accepted students a link to a Web site that greets them with personalized balloons, cheering, and applause. The director of admissions says this extra effort at recruiting has really worked well. The school accepts 500 applicants each year, and the percentage that actually choose to enroll at Berkeley increased from 52% the year before the Web greeting to 54% this year.
