Create a 4 page smartcardor 7 slide smartcard over speaking

SmartCard Activity Directions

A SmartCard is usually a 4 page folder that covers a specific content area or theme (ex. Character, Graphic Organizers or Teambuilding).

It contains several Kagan cooperative learning structures that can be used to help build those qualities and increase student engagement, thus increasing student achievement.

SmartCards aren't generally grade specific, and can be adapted to use in most grade levels.

Create a 4 page SmartCard(or 7 slide SmartCard) over speaking, listening & writing. (Does not have to be grade specific.) Use the Cooperative Learning Structures Planning Activity.

The SmartCard can be built in Word, Publisher or PowerPoint.

TheSmartCard needs to include:

Pages/Slides

Word / Publisher: 3-4 total pages

PowerPoint: 7 slides minimum When using PowerPoint, Slide 1 needs to be a title slide. Each structure, along with its two activities needs to be on one slide.

Structures

2 structures for each skill area of listening, speaking, writing - 6 total structures - all different

explicit and easy to follow directions on how to do the structure

2 activities specific to each skill area

Activities

2 activities for each of the 6 cooperative learning structures - 12 total activities - all different

explicit and easy to follow directions for each activity

all 12 activities aligned to a standard for listening, speaking or writing - just indicator number on body of SmartCard
Kansas Career and College Readiness sheet(s) or slide(s) with the complete descriptor of each standard for each of the 12 activities.

Word / Publisher: However many pages that are needed.

PowerPoint: This can be additional slides 8 and beyond as needed.

For example:

On the SmartCardby each activity put the standard indicator: SL.3.1 B

On the Kansas Career and College Readiness sheet put the complete standard:

Listening Structure __________ - Activity #1 - SL 3.1 B Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).

While your activities do not need to be grade specific, when you go to the website for the standards, you will have to choose a grade level to get to the standards. Once a grade is chosen, scroll down to the area (speaking, listening, writing) that you need. As you will notice in the example above, speaking and listening are together (SL 3.1.B)

Examples of actual Kagan SmartCardsare in your Week 10 folder along with other information & rubric. Have fun with this, be creative and make it eye catching. Make it something you will use in your classrooms or that you can leave for a substitute to use when you are absent.
