A Greek woman in the team asked her team leader for leave on a particular Friday for religious and cultural reasons, as Greek Orthodox, Good Friday does not coincide with the Easter weekend public holidays this year. She alleges that her team leader laughed at her request, saying 'You are in Australia and should celebrate Australian Easter', and commented that it wasn't fair that she should have an extra day off.
The team leader and employee then began yelling at each other in front of the team, and both stormed off, leaving the team upset.
The employee has now phoned Emma Barr, Head of Customer Service to make a complaint of bullying and discrimination. She is too distressed to return to work. Her team leader thinks the situation is trivial.
