Assignment
In this activity, we are examining some of the best and some of the worst countries when it comes to environmental performance. We will look at the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), and you will do some additional research, to see what makes the highest ranked countries successful and the lowest-ranked countries unsuccessful. We will also look at the United States' ranking and opportunities for improvement.
A. Go to 2022 EPI Results website.
B. Select "Results" and scan over the results. List three rankings that surprise you and explain why they surprise you.
C. Select Policy Makers' Summary and read the summary.
D. Go back to "Results" and select two countries in the top 10 and two countries in the bottom 10.
E. Click on the country and explore the detailed results.
F. Identify the factors that influence these rankings of the countries selected.
G. Identify the most important environmental policies and regulations of the selected countries.
H. Compare the selected countries to the United States.
I. List a few things the United States is doing well and a few things the United States could improve on.
J. Does the physical size of a country have an influence on the effectiveness of the environmental policy? Explain why or why not.
