HISTORY SIGNATURE ASSIGNMENT: Written Report

The Reflective Essay (Written Report) will present a historical dilemma that comprises ethical challenge regarding the effect of a historical, social, political, economic, cultural, or global force on the period appropriate for History 1301. The student must use both Primary and Secondary resources to collect evidence of adequate source information to analyze, evaluate, synthesize and communicate a reflective response to the historical dilemma presented that demonstrates social and personal responsibility.

The college core objective adopted rubrics will be utilized to reflect the artifact's demonstration of student communication/writing skills, critical thinking, personal responsibility, and social responsibility.

The Reflective Essay:

1. Must use Department historical dilemma (topics)

2. Must ensure that the use of resources elicit student writing that demonstrates the core objectives (as delineated in the adopted rubrics) observable by outside assessment teams/graders. (This will most often require multiple resources) 3 - 4 outside sources

3. Must require the student to create an argument through the use of historical evidence.

4. Must require the student to analyze and interpret primary and secondary sources.

5. Must be implemented within the Blackboard System.

6. Must be concluded on or before the due date given in the course syllabus.

7. Must result in a student writing product of a minimum of 1000 words (3-4 typed pages)

8. You must begin your report ty stating your selected topic!

9. Include proper citations (MLA, APA, etc.) throughout the body of the report.

10. And include a Bibliography or Works Cited page at the end of your report.

Choose from the following topics for their Written Report:

• President Thomas Jefferson's acquisition of the Louisiana Purchase (despite his belief that it was unconstitutional).

• The dilemma President Abraham Lincoln experienced when making the decision that the Emancipation Proclamation would free only those slaves behind Confederate lines.

• The dilemma faced by women's rights activists to support or oppose the 15th Amendment as evidenced by the resulting split in the women's suffrage movement.

• Compare the differences between Spanish and English settlement of the New World!

• Discuss the differences between the North and South both as the Civil War began and its impact on each side and how each side was impacted and left after the war!

Discuss the differences between the Articles of Confederation and the Costitution!
