Situation

You are a grant writer working for a local nonprofit. You have been tasked to create a database of funding sources for your nonprofit.

Task

Research Available Funding Opportunities

Choose a cause that you are passionate about and find a website of a local nonprofit that supports that cause. Study that nonprofit's vison and mission statements and other relevant information on its website. You can also choose to work with the nonprofit organization that you currently work for or plan to organize in the future.

Prepare a database of 10-15 relevant funding sources (RFPs or listings of various programs) for the chosen nonprofit.

Create a catalog entry (1-2 pages per entry) for each opportunity (See the form below. Copy and paste the form as many times as you need.). Sort the entries in the catalog by sponsor types.

Use headings to mark sections and subsections. To find sponsors, study "How to Find Sponsors" in PPPs and Supplemental Reading Materials and browse available websites. You can list specific programs with foundations or individual RFPs.

Write a Memo

Write a one-page memo and briefly introduce your chosen nonprofit and discuss its needs. Then explain how you have conducted your research and what funding sources you have selected for the organization and why. Attach your catalog as an appendix to your memo.

NOTE: When creating your catalog entries, paraphrase the descriptions that you find online or use quotation marks. Avoid plagiarism.

NOTE: This is a hypothetical case, and you will create a "practice" catalog. It may not be as extensive and as detailed as the one that you will prepare in real life. Still, provide as many details as possible.

Formatting Requirements

All documents must be single-spaced, formatted with headings and subheadings. Add a footer or a header with your name and a page number on each page except the title page. Consult the following resource in PPPs and Supplemental Reading Materials:

• "Examples_Memo Letter Email Comparison"

Your Audience

Your primary audience will be your fundraising team, the executive director, and the board of directors of that nonprofit.
