Children with severe autism generally have difficulty

Question: module 6 dq 1 argument Rachel

Children with severe autism generally have difficulty communicating and relating with others in a social environment (Thompson, McFerran, & Gold, 2014). Thus, the researcher who wants to learn about the experience of children with severe autism receiving assistance in special education in public schools would need to use multiple data collection methods that do not exclusively rely upon interviews of the children themselves. Consequently, I recommend the researcher employ a case study design. Case studies require at least three data collection sources and provide for the various complexities inherent within a case (Kozleski, 2017). For example, the researcher could collect data through (1) observations of children receiving various forms of assistance in a special education classroom, (2) interviews of the teachers (and students when possible), (3) documents collected from the students' school files, and (4) the researcher's field notes. Thus, I would classify the method described above as an interpretive case study as it includes multiple perspectives (Willis, 2008).
