CHEMICAL ENGINEERING - ASPEN Simulation Practice

A) Superheated steam at 10.0 bar is combined with saturated steam at 7.0 bar in a ratio of 1.96:1 (superheated:saturated by mass).  The product is steam at 250 °C and 7.0 bar and the process operates at steady state.

1) Calculate the temperatures of the feed streams, assuming that the mixer is adiabatic.  You should do this first by hand or by solving simultaneous equations in Excel or Matlab.  Then check your answer using Aspen.

2) Show how the exit temperature would change if heat were lost or added during the process, keeping the feed conditions and exit pressure the same as was just calculated or given.  Do this with Excel or Matlab or Aspen over a temperature range of ~200 - 300 °C.  Note: you can choose whether to vary T and calculate Q or vice versa.  For Excel or Matlab calculations, one point with heat added and one with heat removed is sufficient.

3) Do the enthalpies for each stream given by Aspen match the enthalpies given in the steam table in Felder and Rousseau?  If not, why not?  Is this a problem for doing calculations?  Why or why not?
