Overview
In this course, you learn about various instructional strategies to utilize with students of low incidence disabilities. This Case Study assignment will help you synthesize your learning and demonstrate your knowledge, application, and analysis of characteristics of students with low incidence disabilities and appropriate instructional strategies to meet their individualized needs.
Learner Outcomes
1. Identify, compare, and categorize traits and characteristics of learners with exceptionalities.
2. Recognize the effects of disabilities across the lifespan and proactively address the implications through the application of research based strategies.
3. Recognize effects and complications of medications on learners with exceptionalities and adjust instruction accordingly.
4. Understand and demonstrate methods to facilitate and manage materials, resources, and personnel related to providing appropriate instruction and related services for learners with exceptionalities.
5. Understand and demonstrate ways to prepare and facilitate individualized and developmentally appropriate instructional strategies to promote problem solving and student learning throughout their lifespan.
6. Understand and incorporate appropriate behavioral and academic theories and strategies based upon a learner's individual communication skills and needs relevant to general education curricula.
7. Understand and implement life skills instruction and resources to facilitate independence in various settings.

Part 1: Characteristics of Learners With a Low Incidence Disability
1. Gather information about traits and characteristics of the selected student.
2. Gather professional or scholarly information about traits and characteristics of students with the same low incidence disability.
3. Compare and contrast the selected student with scholarly information.

Part 2: Select and Develop an Evidence-Based Instructional Strategy
1. Based on the characteristics and needs of your selected student, identify an evidence-based instructional strategy to promote problem solving and student learning throughout their lifespan.
2. Create a plan to implement the evidence-based instructional tool with your student.
3. Develop a plan to collect and assess data.
Part 3: Implement Evidence-Based Instructional Strategy and Gather Data
1. Implement the evidence-based instructional tool with your student and reflect on impact on student learning, difficulties and/or positive experiences with implementation, and implications for future implementation.
2. Collect data.
3. Analyze data.
4. Create an instructional plan based on implementation of the evidence-based instructional strategy and data gathered to address the student's academic need.
Part 4: Communication and Behavior Support
1. Gather information about the student's communication.
2. Gather information about the student's behavioral needs.
3. Create a behavioral plan to create a supportive environment conducive to improving student behavior.
Part 5: Health, Medication, and Personal Care and Reflection
1. Collaborate with various stakeholders to gather information about the student in regards to the areas of health, medication, and personal care including effects and complications which may require adjustments to instruction.
2. Create a plan to create a supportive environment conducive to improving the student's health, medical needs, and personal care.
3. Write a reflection of this case study including
