In any situation of communication, there are two essential elements, which are the sender and the receiver. The sender is any individual who wishes to convey a concept or an idea to other people, express emotion or thought, or seek information. The receiver is an individual or person to whom the message, idea, or concept is sent. The role of the sender is to encode the concept or idea by selecting the symbols that will be used to compose a message (Ueda, H. & Fujita 2011, p. 968). The message is sent using a channel which the communication carrier. The channel can be a telephone call, e-mail message, or a formal report. The receiver on the other end will decode the symbols send and interpret the meaning of the message. After interpretation of the meaning of the message, the receiver will send feedback to the sender.

Factors to consider when selecting e-communication channel include elements of the message, cost, speed of feedback, and permanent record. In most cases in a professional environment, the elements of the message are not personal, and the formal letters of emails can be used to convey a message. In social environment, the messages are personal, and they can be conveyed through text or direct calls (Brennan, R. E. &Valcic 2012, p. 4). In both the professional and social environments, the costs of sending the message are considered. Most people choose the cheapest channels as per the speed of the message. In professional environment, it requires a permanent record for future reference and the channels to be used can be formal letters or emails. Social environment does not need any reference, and any channel can be used. Speed of feedback is another factor to consider when choosing the channel. Since immediate feedback is required in a professional environment, one-on-one channel can be used. Texts or direct calls can be used.

Some of the things anticipated from the receiver depend on the message and the channel used by the sender when sending the message. When a message is urgent, the receiver will respond instantly. When a message is urgent, the channels used are direct calls or texts. In this case, the receiver will get the message directly without delay and he/she will respond immediately. When the sender uses a channel as an email or formal letter, he/she will expect some delays. It is because sometimes the receiver might not access the email continuously and he/she might not realize the message has been sent. When a direct call or text is used, the sender will expect instant feedback because the receiver will get the message direct on the mobile phone. When formal letters are used, the sender should expect some delays because the letter might take a long time to reach the destination (Brennan, R. E. &Valcic 2012, p. 6).

When I read my classmate's posts, I learned many things. It is important to use the language in which the receiver will understand. It is because some senders might send a message in a language that the receiver will not understand. It will take time because the receiver will have to explain that he/she does not understand the language. The sender should consider the urgency of the message such that the right channel is used. After reading the postings, I would like to know the period that the sender takes before a follow-up in case of delays. I would like a clarification if it is necessary for the receiver to reply even self-explanatory messages. My post and those of classmates have similarity. It is because we considered cost and urgency as the factors considered when selecting channels. The difference is that I considered permanent record as a factor when choosing he channel while classmates did not consider it.
