Choose a public inquiry from the list below or you can choose one of your own. A power point presentation is required and full details are below.

You will provide a 20 minute (INTERNALS _ GROUPS) 10 minutes (EXTERNALS INDIVIUDAL) presentation using power point on the topic of your chosen public inquiry. You must provide the lecturer with at least a 1500 word summary that contains academic references.

All internal students must present in class in week 11 (randomly allocated in class).

External students should either upload their presentation to Blackboard or post to the Unit Coordinator their DVD/video recording or voice-over recording on CD/DVD of their presentation by Friday of Week 11.

Guidelines for presentation

Power point slides must be used for the presentation for both INTERNAL and EXTERNAL students, EXTERNALS must upload into the assignment submission section including a written summary.
External students: Ideally it is preferred that you video record or find a mechanism to record yourself doing the presentation. It is acknowledged this will not be possible for all therefore, if you are unable to deliver an audio component you must provide a written transcript with references.

2. Total presentation time must not exceed 20 minutes(INTERNAL STUDENTS-GROUP) 10minutes (EXTERNAL STUDENTS-INDIVIDUAL).

Effective time management forms part of the assessment criteria.

3. The summary must contain

  • An introduction
  • A summary of key information
  • Information about the issues as below
  • A conclusion
  • References

4. Presentations should incorporate the following structure:

  • Introduction - the person responsible for the overview may wish to introduce the inquiry, outline relevant findings and discuss the outcome.
  • Stimulating presentation - The presentation should be realistic and effectively convey the inquiry findings as listed below. Creativity is encouraged. Assistance can be provided with presentation style Power point etc.
  • Conclusion- the presentation is formally brought to a close with a summary of the main aspects of the presentation.

5. Every effort should be made to make this presentation interesting and motivating. It is an assessment and is worth 40% of the total marks for the unit.

6. The criteria used to mark presentations can be used as a checklist when planning and rehearsing.
Choose a public inquiry and address the following issues:

What happened? How it happened? Who was involved? Why did it go undetected for the period of time? What recommendations were made?
