Calculate the pressure within the cylinder at equilibrium

A mixture consists of two parts by volume of steam and three parts by volume of carbon monoxide. The mixture is contained within a cylinder at a pressure of one bar absolute and a temperature of 300°K. After isothermal compression to one tenth of the original volume, the mixture reacts at constant volume.

Calculate the pressure within the cylinder at equilibrium and the composition of the products of combustion, assuming that these consist only of steam, carbon monoxide, hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

How would the final cylinder pressure have been affected if the compression stroke preceding the reaction had been

(a) adiabatic and frictionless, or

(b) adiabatic but frictional.

Indicate the direction of the pressure change in each case, giving the reason.
