An automotive torsion bar spring as shown in Figure 12.1b is used as a counterbalance spring for a trunk lid. The length of the torsion bar portion is 45 in. and the diameter is 0.312 in. Calculate the change in shear stress in the bar and the change in torque when one end of the bar angularly rotates 70° relative to the other end.
