Assignment : Business Functions

Overview:

The assignment provides an opportunity for you to perform research, build your knowledge about the School of Business and professional business functions, and practice professional writing and speaking.

The deliverables for this assignment are a paper and an in-class presentation.Each group will include 4-6 members and cover one of the five business functions: accounting, finance, information systems and operations management (ISOM), management, or marketing.

The assignment is worth 15% of your course grade.This paper and group presentation is due in class October 17th.

Content to be included in both the presentation and the written document:

• Definition and history

• Typical skills and responsibilities

• Career options for professionals

• Student and Professional Associations

• Notable Companies

• Current trends and issues

• GMU and School of Business opportunities

• Global Opportunities and Challenges

Presentation:

Your group should speak for 10-12 minutesand allow an additional five minutes for Q&A with the audience.

Each personshould present equally and the presentation should be designed and delivered as one cohesive unit rather than individual sections.

Use PowerPoint or Prezi for the visual portion of your presentation. Keep in mind that your BUS 103 classmates are the target audience and your goal is to be creative and inspire interest and enthusiasm in your functional area.

Your presentation should incorporate7-10 sources and include APA-stylecitations on the slides and an APA-style reference list at the end.

Paper:

Include section headings and write in paragraph form (although bullet points may be used sparingly). Think of this as a marketing tool to help other students learn about the field.

The length should be approximately three pages and your paper should incorporate 7-10 sources and include in-text APA-style citations as well as an APA-style reference list.

Be very careful to cite your sources in the text and to write using your own words.

• Did the team stay within the allotted time and appear to be well-rehearsed?

• Did the presentation include visual aids that were professional and appealing?

• Did the team engage the audience and spark interest in the functional area?

In addition, peer feedback will be considered in the evaluation process.
