Assessment 1 - PROJECT

Performance objective

Students are required to demonstrate their understanding and ability to develop and use complex spreadsheets by preparing to develop spreadsheets, develop a linked spreadsheet solution, automate and standardise spreadsheet operation, use them and represent the numerical data in graphical form.

Assessment description:
You are to create and use a total of 2 different linked spreadsheets that use advanced spreadsheet features -relevant to your organization or any organization of your choice engaged in construction field. Think about the company, and what you could use spread sheets for. Ideas might include:

One linked spreadsheet must calculate costing estimates for each stage of a construction job against actual expenditures and contracted revenue. Income for this task could be allocated as:
• Deposit 5%
• Base Stage 10%
• Frame Stage 15%
• Lock-up Stage 35%
• Fixing Stage 25%
• Completion 10%

The other linked spreadsheet may include a customer database, menus, itinerary, staff details, wages, timesheets, etc
Demonstrations must be for at least 3 functions from the list below
• mathematical functions (eg. square root, integer, absolute value, round)
• statistical functions (eg. standard deviation, count, maximum, minimum)
• basic financial functions (if available)
• date functions
• logical functions (eg. lookup, if, choose, true, false, conditions)
• simple nested functions.
Your assessor will observe you doing this task and will be assessing you for:
• Using safe work practices
a. Adjust workspace, furniture and equipment to suit your ergonomic requirements
b. Follow workplace procedures in using computer equipment
c. Demonstrate energy & resource conservation techniques , such as following
• double-sided paper use
• recycling used and shredded paper
• re-using paper for rough drafts (observing confidentiality requirements)
• using power-save options for equipment
d. Identify and follow task & organisational requirements for spreadsheets like naming and storing spreadsheets
• Developing a linked spreadsheet solution
• Automating and standardising your spreadsheet operation (through creating, using and editing macros and templates)
• Using your spreadsheet ensuring you

• Use manuals or user documentation (including on-line) for assistance where required
• Review, adjust and print your spreadsheet
• Name and store your spreadsheet accordingly
• Representing numerical data into graph form
• Include appropriate chart type and chart features, which represents numerical data validly
• Create graphs with Labels and titles from numerical data contained in a spreadsheet file
• Save, view, adjust and print each chart

You are now required to arrange a meeting with your assessor and to clarify and confirm the requirements and to answer questions on the advanced functions of spreadsheet software applications used and impact of formatting and design on presentation and readability of data . Review observation checklist to know what is expected of you.
Your assessor will observe you during this observation, ensuring you:
• Design documents to suit purpose and enhance readability.
• Utilise style sheets and automatic functions to ensure consistency of layout and design
• Utilise advanced software functions such as inserting / formatting tables, using headers and footers etc
• Enter data given by instructor or import data if given in digital format
• Preview, adjust and print documents
• Name and save documents following organisation procedures and exit application
• Ensure documents are spell-checked, accurate and prepared within timeframes
• Assistance should be sought from manuals or online help wherever required
