Problem:
Identify a TV/streaming show or movie that involves a family where you can easily observe interactions between a parent and a child. More than one parent and one child are fine to observe and will likely add more content that you can incorporate into your assignment responses. I would recommend viewing for an hour so you are able to identify examples parent-child interaction, socialization characteristics, parenting style behaviors, and discipline. You may find it helpful to watch it multiple times (if you have time). Please let me know if you have any questions around a show/movie.
Briefly describe the parent-child interactions. Address the different types of interactions and synchronization that you observe. Consider the bidirectional effects of the interactions. Along with your examples, provide a clear explanation of terminology and definitions for these forms of socialization from the course material. Use course material and theoretical explanation to support your rationale.
Beyond one parent and one child that you primary observed. Identify other individuals, environmental context, and society factors that could contribute to the dyad relationship between the parent and child. Link at two examples to Bronfenbrenner's system theory that addresses different systems that may influence an individual.
Dependent on the age of the child, address the parenting behaviors that you observed. Explain how the parenting behaviors that you observed links to caregiving, non-caregiving activities, monitoring, managing, and guiding of children/adolescence. Use course material and research evidence to compare and contrast your observations.
Identify one of Baumrind's parenting style that you believe fits with parenting characteristics and behaviors that you observed. Connect to course material and describe the parenting style with examples from research and your own observations. Also, compare and contrast to the other parenting styles to justify your position.
Address discipline behavior that you observe. If you do not observe disciplinary events, I strongly suggest you continue observing or find another TV show/movie. Explain the behaviors that prompted discipline of the child. Describe the types of discipline that you observed based on terminology and research from course material. Consider how the child responded to the parenting behavior and discuss why the parenting behavior did or did not produce a change in the child's behavior. Explain what you would have done differently in the situation based on your own experience and research evidence from course material. If you would not have done anything differently, explain why this form of discipline was an effective opinion based on course material.
