At the end of the semester

Original case analysis, in APA or MLA format, in which you will demonstrate your ability to apply concepts that you have learned in this course by reviewing the managerial communications within a workplace setting and making appropriate recommendations for improvements or problem resolution.

Your case study will feature an analysis of the organizational practices of your current or most recent workplace. The analysis of this workplace should be based on the topics and issues presented in chapters 8-11 and 13 of your textbook. You will develop a scenario for your case based on these topics and create questions to be answered that will lead to a situation resolution.

Be sure to read the section below called "Case Analysis Strategies for Success" for ways to help you prepare for the project.

You should develop your case analysis following the three main steps listed here:

Step 1: Review communications and identify issues within your organization.
The first step in producing your case analysis involves reviewing the managerial communications in your current or most recent workplace while keeping in mind the key concepts in chapters 8-11 and 13 in your textbook. In particular, identify practices that could be improved and issues that you feel need to be resolved.

Step 2: Develop a scenario and relevant questions.
Once you have reviewed the situation regarding managerial communications at your particular workplace in light of what you have learned in your textbook, you will need to write a scenario focusing on those practices and issues that you have identified as problematic.

The scenario that you develop should include a series of questions relating to these issues that you will answer as part of your study. These questions will be a critical part of your case study since they will reflect your grasp of the key concepts covered in the course material and your ability to apply them to achieve practical solutions.

Your answers to the questions that you pose will form the main body of your case analysis. Formulate your answers after reading the textbook chapters listed. You should identify how the concepts and practices in the relevant chapters link to the case. Search for connections, examples, and research mentioned in the textbook as likely explanations for what has occurred.
NOTE: As part of your work in Module 6 you are required to submit a preliminary outline of your project (describing the scenario and the questions you are developing for your case analysis). See the Assignment Modules area of the course Web site for how to submit your outline.
Step 3: Formulate recommendations for resolution of issues.
As you progress through the course you should review your case questions and begin to formulate recommendations aimed at resolving the problems and issues you have identified.

There is no specific length that your case analysis should be, but you should aim to answer each of your questions as thoroughly as possible. For information on how your work should be structured, see the section below called "Case Analysis Structure." For information on how your project will be judged, see the section below called "Assessment Guidelines for Your Case Analysis."
