Assume your reader knows the stories

""Assume your reader knows the stories but doesn't understand them. Consider the title, characters, the point of view (1st person, 3rd person objective, etc.) the narrator (is he/she reliable), the time period. Support your arguments with specific quotations from the story.

*DO NOT SUMMARIZE THE STORY*.

"Cathedral" Raymond Carver is often described as a minimalist: "one who achieves extraordinary effects with a minimum of language, detail, fancy literary footwork." In his book On Modern Fiction, Carver himself says, "In the best fiction, the central character, the hero or heroine, is also the "moved character, the one to whom something happens in the story that makes a difference."[emphasis in original]. Carver often focuses on the moment when something seemingly ordinary but in fact life-changing happens to working class people. In light of all this, what the heck is happening in this story? What is the insight (NOT the lesson) shown in this moment Carver describes? Who is the narrator at the start? How is he different at the end?
