Assignment Overview and Requirements You have completed the course, and should now have the requisite understanding of how to apply the tools and methodology of Stage-Gate®. So, let’s do it! You will be responsible for walking 7 widgets from the Ideation stage, through the post launch review. Obviously, not all 7 widgets will make it through this process, so at each Gate, you will be responsible for making Go/Kill information using the information available at that Stage. The intent of this assignment is APPLICATION – understanding the definitions of what Stage-Gate® is or isn’t, is important, BUT it is not the focus of this assignment, so more than two pages worth of definitions, or the like, will result in negative points. APPLY STAGE-GATE® - use what you have learned in this course to make decisions and move ahead with those decisions. You are in charge, and you are responsible for bringing these Widgets to launch. Good luck! Assignment Background You are the project leader for your large engineering firm, and you have been handed over 7 ideas that your management team wants to investigate through launch. Throughout this process, it is important that you follow the Stage-Gate® methodology – from Ideation to Post-Launch Review. You will need to complete all of the tasks in each stage, as well as make Go/Kill decisions at each gate. Use what you know about the method in order to do the proper “research”, and make proper decisions. In general, this is a hypothetical problem, in which case you are meant to come up with the information on your own – through “research”, problem-solving, and a bit of an imagination! There are no “right” answers, and everyone is capable of achieving 100% on this assignment by: 1) Covering all of the topics addressed in the course 2) Use analysis and argument in order justify your decisions – you are the one with all of the knowledge on these widgets. 3) Use hard numbers (but feel free to make them up – there is no true source of the information other than deep within your head!) That goes to say, if (and when) you decide to discuss the financial analysis tools, discuss all of the elements of the midterm. Or, when making decisions on which projects pass the Go to Development Gate, don’t forget about non-financial based analysis tools. 4) Follow what is deemed “the cardinal rule” for this project (see below.) 5) Use your imagination! 6) Follow the points breakdown. The Cardinal Rule 7 ideas should translate to into 4 projects in development, 1.5 projects launch, and 1 project will succeed
