Assignment - Create a BPMN Diagram

This assignment is a continuation of learning about business processes - 1) understanding business processes, and 2) properly documenting them. For this assignment you will use a word processing app and Lucidchart in creating your response to the task. Read this entire assignment (attention-to-detail) to make sure you complete the assignment correctly.

Approach this assignment as a business process consultant that will assist the organization in updating and improving their business processes. Review the rubric before and after you complete the task (attention-to-detail) to make sure you address all areas. You are to accomplish this task on your own. If you seek help, you must document by who and what help was given.

Task:

You are required to create a business process diagram in BPMN format (with emphasis in using BPMN format) from the business process you documented in a previous assignment. Review chapter 2 as necessary as your diagram should look like those in the textbook. For this task you are required to:

Read the reference article

Review your process description document - Adjust your roles if necessary

From your description, create a business process diagram using BPMN format (this means with swimlanes!)

Create a vertical pool that has as a minimum 8 activities, 2 decisions, 4 roles with at least one role done by IS (If your existing process doesn't have - add elements)

Remember, a pool is the "overall container" that contains all elements of a business process

The process must flow from start to finish and not have any dead ends

Decisions can only be yes/no and have to be yes/no

  • If you need to cascade yes/no decisions, do so

Put roles (that is performed by an actor) into swimlanes

A swimlane is much like a swimlane for a swimmer

You will use Lucidchart for this part of the task

Create a PDF for submission

When finished one should be able to create a description (that closely matches the one your wrote) from the model.

Create a separate document and describe what you learned from doing the assignment

  • Put your name on the document
  • State that you read referenced material
  • If you had to modify your existing process explain why and what you did
  • Describe what you learned
  • Create a pdf to submit with this assignment

Information System Technologies

As with each assignment for this course you will use several information systems. Many times you will not have experience using some of them. This is part of the assignment and task to achieve. Use research' as necessary to help you use a particular IS. You will use the following information systems to complete this task:

Use Lucidchart to create your BPMN diagram. Make sure your diagrams have the same look and 'feel' as the ones in the textbook. Use the correct symbols (pg 29) when creating your diagram and make sure your lines are straight and when necessary have 90 degree bends (don't leave them curved). Then export the completed diagram as a PDF to attach to this assignment. Conduct research" as needed to effectively use lucidchart.com. You can also embed as an image in the MS Word Document.

Word Processing SW: Use this to describe your business process. Place your name on the document and which activity you selected. When done, create a PDF document to attach to this assignment.
