Assess vincors global competitive position in the wine

You are looking for a solution and evaulation of the Ivey Case Study "Vincor and the New World of Wine". If anyone is fimilar with this case I would appreciate the help! I am doing a presentation on the case and need to evaulate how profitable their decison will be and consider all the factors that will allow/deter them to enter into this new market.

The Questions I have to answer are:

1. Assess Vincor's global competitive position in the wine industry. Does it make sense for Vincor to try and become a global top 10 player? Why?

2. Should Vincor concentrate on further developing the United Stares market or expand into a geographically distant country such as Australia? What are the risks of such an expansion?

3. What will Vincor gain by acquiring Goundrey? How does Goundrey fit into Voncor's overall strategy?

4. What do you recommend?

Case Summary: Vincor International Inc. was Canada's largest wine company and North America's fourth largest in 2002. The company had decided to internationalize and as the first step had entered the United States through two acquisitions.

The company's chief executive officer felt that to be among the top 10 wineries in the world, Vincor needed to look beyond the region.

To the end, he was considering the acquisition of an Australian company, Goundrey Wines. He must analyze thestrategic rationale for the acquisition of Goundrey as well as to probe questions of strategic fit and value.
