Problem: Are mystical experiences attained through psychotropic plants and chemicals authentic religious experiences? If so, why are we not encouraged to seek the Divine more through this method? If not, how would you feel if you found out that many important religious people throughout history used profound physical techniques in addition to prayer and meditation? Should religious traditions that employ such methods, e.g. the Native American Church, Santo Daime, Rastafarians, et al be allowed to worship in this way? In other words, do you agree with the U.S. constitution's assertion of religious freedom as a fundamental right and does this extend to non-mainstream practices?
