Analyzing the interpretation of slavery

The three-page paper due on Monday, March 30 (via SafeAssign on Blackboard) is to be based on your visit to the Hampton-Preston house, located at 1615 Blanding Street in Columbia. The Historic Columbia Foundation (www.historiccolumbia.org) offers hour-long guided tours of the house Tuesdays through Saturdays starting from 10:00 to 3:00 and Sundays starting from 1:00 to 4:00. Tours organize fifteen minutes before the top of each hour and begin promptly at the top of the hour. Tours assemble at the museum shop on the Henderson Street side of the Robert Mills house, which is directly across Blanding Street from the Hampton-Preston house. The houses are closed on Mondays and major holidays. Standard admission for college students is $6.

The Historic Columbia Foundation has generously set aside a variety of timeslots for which students in HIST 111 may make reservations for tours. Reservations are not otherwise available. The timeslots reserved for our class are listed below. Groups in these timeslots, like all tour groups, will be limited to twenty participants. Admission for students during the special HIST 111 timeslots will be $3. Students who reserve a tour will also avoid the possibility of arriving at the museum shop and finding that the next tour is already full. Students with reservations should report to the museum shop fifteen minutes before the scheduled tour is to begin.
