Assignment: Stating Research Methodology and Research Design & Your Research Purpose Statement
After reviewing the readings and handouts in the previous study, select a methodology and a research design to support your research question. Post a well-written message in the discussion area that includes the following:
• State the research question.
• State the methodology.
• State the research design you have selected.
• State in one or more paragraphs the justification for the research design; refer to the words of the research question that imply or suggest the selected design.
Your research question reflects the methodology and the design of your investigation. In the next several unit activities, you will learn to conceptualize a specific research design to respond to your research question(s).
After this unit, you will be able to develop a preliminary selection of methodology and research design for your study. You should identify the issues and areas of research methodology that you really do not understand.
Knowing what you do not know will prepare you well for more detailed and in-depth exploration of research methods.

2. Determine an appropriate research design for an action research or program evaluation project.
3. Justify the choice of a research methodology and design, demonstrating alignment with the research question.
4. Differentiate between qualitative and quantitative research methods and data collection.
Activity: Writing the Purpose Statement
Based on the instructions in the readings and the information in the study, write your purpose statement. It should describe:
• The social, community, or practitioner problem that forms the context for the research problem.
• The actual immediate purpose of the study, which is to address the research question and by doing so, contribute to the solution of the research problem. Note: Do not use generic language. Describe the purpose using the language of your specific study, topic, research problem, and research question.
• The audience beyond the dissertation or capstone committee to whom the study is aimed.
