Introduction:

Metrics in HR Functions

The key to the success of many programs or processes is the term "value added." It is based on the fundamental concept of metric-driven performance. If a measurement does not add value to the operation, change or eliminate it. Most functions within an organization can be viewed in terms of measuring whether they are effective or add value. However, not every single component of an organization will be "value added." Sometimes, metrics and information must be gathered because of laws and regulations as opposed to adding value to the organization. In addition, the HR department does not contribute to the production of goods or services in the organization; therefore, they are not directly related to profit levels. However, they serve an extremely important purpose in the organization regardless.
